{2009 DRAMA/ROMANCE, starring Alicja Bachleda and Colin Farrell}
I absolutely adore Alicja, she is stunningly beautiful and an amazing actor. Colin Farrell isn't too bad either. (`ー´)I actually watched this movie coincidentally, but I'm really glad I didn't change the channel.
The movie starts out at sea, there's a man in a boat, a fisherman. He appears to be quite miserable as he pulls up his net. But there is something different this time, there isn't fish in it. There's a woman in it. She calls herself Ondine, and she does not wish to be seen by anyone. Syracuse, the fisherman, let's her hide in an isolated cottage that used to be his mother's. As the movie goes on, we learn that Syracuse has a daughter named Annie, whose curiosity leads to discovering Ondine in the old cottage. They immediately establish a strong bond. Annie is convinced Ondine is a selkie, a mythical seal from Irish mythology. Both Annie and Syracuse are beginning to believe this fairytale, but Ondine carries a secret that threatens to shatter everything they have built together.
Although this movie might seem a bit slow for some, the scenery, soundtrack and the overall feel of the movie makes up for it. The dialogue is well written and beautifully acted. This film is very easy to follow, and it's great for a lonely afternoon. (^▽^)
I never knew Ireland was such a beautiful place before watching this. I definitely recommend watching it.
